Substations

Centaur has extensive experience in substation projects, from design, supply, installation and testing & commissioning of substations up to 400kV, to the selection of equipment required to meet the demands of the highly sensitive link in the power network.
Design
Our in-house design team has equipped the company with the capability to execute complete design of substations from 33kV up to 400kV, which includes:
- Detailed feasibility study
- Engineering plan
- Pile design
- Foundations
- Steel structures
- Control house
- Positioning of equipment
- Design of manhole and conduit system
- Design of auxiliary A.C. power system
- Selection of D.C. batteries and battery chargers
- Grounding and lightning protection design
- Relay protection and instrumentation schematics
- Remote control and metering (SCADA)
- Bus design
Assets
The selection of major equipment is one of the most critical tasks in substation engineering. The latest equipment possessed by Centaur includes:
- Power transformer
- Circuit breaker
- Current transformer (CT)
- Voltage transformer (VT)
- Disconnect switch

Manpower & Certification
Full-fledged in-house facility with competent project managers of 25+ years of experience, construction managers, site managers with 10 to 20 years of experience, certified and approved project engineers, site engineers, supervisors, foremen, charge hands and labour.
Our engineers have proven their skills and capabilities by executing innumerable important power substation projects across the UAE. Each site has approved safety officers to ensure safety as per UAE safety protocols.
Process
Building a new substation or retrofitting an existing one is a complex process. The main steps in substation design and engineering are as follows:
- Selection of switching system (ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, etc.)
- Preparation of key plan showing location of all components
- Equipment selection and ordering
- Engineering support for NOC, licensing and approvals
- Civil and structural works
- Equipment erection and installation
- Protection relay setting and testing
- Testing and commissioning
